Explore scholarship opportunities

In addition to your existing financial aid, there are many scholarships available to help students defray the costs of studying abroad. You are encouraged to visit each award's respective site for eligibility criteria and deadlines.

SU's Education Abroad Office offers scholarships to students participating in programs affiliated with SU (SU-Sponsored, SU-Exchange, and SU Faculty-Led). 

Many Program Providers and Host Universities provide their own scholarships to students participating in their program. Below is a list of SU’s partnered Program Providers offering their own institutional scholarships. 

In addition to EAO and partner institutions’ need-based aid, there are other national scholarships for students with demonstrated financial need. 

  • Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship - up to $5,000 for Federal Pell Grant recipients. Students studying a Critical Need Language are eligible for up to $8,000 
  • Freeman Asia- For Pell Grant Recipients studying in Asia 
  • Fund for Education Abroad - up to $10,000 to students with demonstrated financial need, preference to students of diverse backgrounds  

These are scholarships through the U.S. State Department for U.S. citizens studying critical-need languages as part of their studies abroad. 

This list includes both national and program-specific scholarship for particular underrepresented student populations.
